They should have a sign on the outside of the door like those ones for cell phone, "Please turn off brain before entering."

Jez has her bullshit detector set on high! Get out the hipwaders and shovels I always said, as shit rolls downhill and the rank and file are definitely at the bottom of the hill.

Reminds me of the IBM slogan, Think. Too bad it doesn't say something like, love your fellow man, or be a decent human being, something remotely worthwhile rather than slavery to the org.

How do you know when you've found your calling?
by love11 inwhen i first left the jw's i didn't know what i wanted or who i was.
i've went through about 100 different career options that i liked.
i think that i've finally narrowed it down (for the millionth time) to pick this one career field- psychology.

Love11, that's not just a JW thing, most people have a hard time deciding what to do when they grow up. There are some folks that just know from a very young age what they want to do and never waver, while most knock around a while before finding their niche and for many of us there is always the question as to what if I had done this or that, sort of like with relationships sometimes, so many choices so little time. I picked one of the careers that I was always interested in, but there are plenty of others that I would love to take a stab at. Maybe you can try to combine the things you like the most, become a shrink who specializes in working with artists (just make sure that they are not all starving so you can make a decent living).

I shouldn't laugh ...but

seems his jw father (my brother) and mother came home and caught him having sex, with a guy!!
seems they walked in when the guys were right in the middle of it.

Aniron, people are people no matter what race, creed, orientation, etc., the biggest difference I have seen is the folks that subscribe to a group like the JW's often refuse to face reality and the possibility that all may not be perfect in the fold. So when there are tell tale signs from the kids, or spouse that all is not wonderful they just ignore it until something like what happens with your brother just beats them over the head and they have no choice but to deal with it. If they would accept the possibility that they and their children are like everyone else and not some God sanctified elite they could deal with the "normal" issues of sexuality, etc. as they arise.
I don't think there are many that don't give in to the desire to snicker a little when those that set themselves up as morally superior are proven to be just as human and screwed up as the rest of us.

A Plain Rebel!
by Golf ini often share the experiences i read on this forum with my wife.
every time i leave this forum, i just shake my head in disbelief.
i ask, don't these people have a will and life of their own?

Golf, no you are being very clear, I understand what you are saying. I agree that living a life of fear is not desirable and if you do that you are giving up your free will. If that fear is being generated strictly out of their doctrine, do as we say or God will destroy you, I fully agree with all of your statements.
My only caveat was that if one is going along with the JW program out of fear of say potentially losing contact with their children, then I could sympathize with that and see why they might be willing to do that.

Golf, I'm all for free thinking, can't have enough of that in my opinion. Not sure though what you meant with the fear question though.

This is an interesting thread and I'm still not sure if I fully understand exactly what the gist is, who or what is being rebelled against. I agree that people should be true to themselves, not doormats and most of the other comments made so far. Self actualization is great and I fully endorse it.
However, I think it is very easy to judge people as spineless, gutless, or whatever without fully understanding the sort of pressures that might be exerted on them. There are people here that are afraid of losing their children, their siblings, their parents etc. That is some pretty powerful leverage that might make a person decide to go along to get along. Being a rebel is all well and good when that makes one a millionaire, but what about when standing up for what you think can cost you everything you've ever worked for, or cost you the chance to ever speak to your children? Deciding you are not going to take any crap in a relationship or a job is one thing, putting your life on the line or sacrificing your children is something else altogether.
Just wanted to throw that out there.
